Country life at its best – Badminton Horse Trials 2025! Plus … Ladies & Gents – What to wear for the upcoming show season!

Badminton Horse Trials 2025

Well what a Badminton that was! From glorious sunshine, beautiful brands, and the most nail biting finish to the Showjumping, this Badminton has certainly filled our hearts, and geared us up for the upcoming show season!

I have been working/attending the show circuit for over 15 years now, excluding all those times we would attend the events when I was a little girl, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert when it comes to styling at shows, as well as which shows to attend.

Badminton has always been a firm favourite. As a horsey girl, I remember attending this event as a child, wearing my jodhpurs (because that’s what you did!), right through to working the event, and now attending as a spectator.

This internationally respected event contains all the thrills and spills of eventing, and this year didn’t fail to disappoint! It was a completely heart in mouth moment for the finish, with Ros Canter taking the lead and finishing 1st in this prestigious event.

Now more than ever, country style is dominating the shows, and I am here to help both men and women to not only feel great, but take the show circuit by storm!

What I Wore to Badminton ‘25:

Left: Outfit one, Right: Outfit two

~ Outfit One ~

Outfit one was a beautiful Joules outfit, put together with their stunning new Toile de Jouy print. When I say these trousers are a showstopper, they really are! I don’t think I have ever had so many comments and compliments on a look!

Outfit two was really Summery, perfectly fitting the gorgeous weather we had all weekend. This was a new style dress from Schoffel, teamed with one of their new colourways in the 1/4 zip sweatshirt.

Woman’s Event/Show Style

1. Function Meets Fashion – Style is nothing if you’re soaked or shivering. At the shows, I am not one to promote ‘pain is beauty’ – it isn’t. You need to be comfortable, and with that comes being slightly sensible when planing your outfits. Waterproof outerwear in the car, and wearing comfy footwear are non-negotiables – you’ll thank me later. Shows are not the time for breaking in new footwear, or looking glam but feeling cold.

2. Invest in Heritage – You don’t need loads of outfits. Investing well, working on a capsule wardrobe, and avoiding impulse purchasing all helps towards building a wardrobe of staples you’ll be able to wear time and time again. Think of building a wardrobe off reliable pieces which could be reworn in multiple ways. I like to buy affordable base pieces, and add more luxury accessories to elevate a look.

3. Accessorise with Intention – They say accessories make the outfit, and they do! Accessories can really elevate your outfit, and as I said above, these can often be worth investing in. Leather pieces will age with grace in your wardrobe and work hard for tyou year after year. You can change up your base and keep those same accessories, for a completely different look.

4. Footwear is Finest – I am a firm believer that comfort is key, and when it comes to events, this is crucial. This is not the time to be breaking in a new pair of shoes – no matter how comfortable you think they might be – it’s likely they won’t be on that first wear! I always advise practical. It is highly likely at shows that you might need wellies or boots, even if the previous years you wore your favourite loafers or decks – always think practically and keep an eye on the weather!

So whether you’re admiring the ponies at Badminton or at the clay pigeon stand at The Game Fair, you’ll be dressed to impress in true Country Classic Lucinda style – sensible, stylish, and steeped in countryside charm.

Men’s Event/Show Style

1. Form Meets Function – Gents, your outfit should work as hard as you do. A well-cut tweed or wax jacket should keep you warm without sacrificing style. Should it be bright sunshine, swap out that coat for a gilet – practicality is key! Dress for the weather, and always layer – that way you can leave items in the car, or over your shoulders as required.

2. Invest in the Classics – There are certain country pieces that will never let you down. Fleece gilets, tweed blazers, waterproof shooting coats, a good pair of Chelsea boots – these staples go with just about everything and look better with age, Invest wisely in those pieces which will serve you outfit after outfit.

3. Stick to Earthy Tones – Moss green, chestnut brown, navy, and deep burgundy — these are your go to colours. They blend beautifully with the landscape and will make for a really versatile wardrobe, being able to incorporate these colours into multiple different outfits.

4. Accessories Matter – A smart leather belt, flat cap or cap, a traditional watch – they all speak volumes, and it really is true that the little things matter. These are the pieces that will elevate your look, and really stand you out from the crowd.

Whether you’re spectating the showjumping or testing your aim at the clay shooting, following these golden rules will help you master countryside confidence as well as classic style.
