Steal my style – What I wore to Rome, PLUS how to make the most out of a weekend itinerary

Hello my darlings! We recently returned from Rome, and I wanted to share with you a roundup of how to make the most of a weekend there, and what to wear in these cooler months.

First trip of the year! It was SO good to be back on a plane and out there exploring!

Hope you love it!

🏛️ A Weekend in Rome 🏛️

We were due to take an early flight out Friday Morning and catch a flight later Sunday Afternoon. This is perfect for those wanting to try and explore some cities, without using too much annual leave. We only had small under seat luggage. We had come up with a list of places/sites we wanted to visit whilst we were there.

~ Friday ~

Unfortunately the weekend we flew there was a bad storm overnight, so we ended up with a delayed flight. This meant instead of landing in Rome for 11am on the Friday, it was actually more like 3/4pm, so it did feel like we lost quite a bit of the day. Annoying whilst at the airport, but once we were in Rome it was all forgotten.

We got the direct train from the airport straight into the city, and walked to our hotel to check in. On our walk to the hotel, we passed the Trevi Fountains which was the perfect way to set the scene for the rest of our trip. Our hotel was lovely, and in a great location, but it did remind me of the Hollywood Tower of Terror Hotel (IYKYK!!).

After freshening up, we headed out to explore locally around the hotel. We had found a restaurant on TikTok we wanted to try, which was also fairly local to the hotel.

Following dinner, we headed over to the Vatican City area, which was beautifully lit up at night.

~ Saturday ~

Saturday had us set for a full day of exploring. We had breakfast in the rooftop bar of our hotel, then headed out exploring for the day.

We managed to see all of the sites we wanted too (we ticked off all the usual tourist attractions and historical hot spots). We didn’t pay for any entry or tours, which saved us both time and money. Most of the ruins you can see very clearly from the outside, without having to pay to walk through them. Things like the churches, you can enter most of them and see their beautiful interiors for free.

Towards sunset, we had headed back to get changed, and explore again for the evening. We also paid for entry to a rooftop bar overlooking the Trevi Fountain (expensive in my opinion but it did include a drink and the view was stunning). We also ate at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Colosseum.

~ Sunday ~

We had a 3.30pm flight booked home, meaning we still had the morning before we needed to get to the airport.

We ate breakfast at one of the viral cafes, where we had Prosecco and pistachio croissants, sat overlooking the Trevi Fountain, couldn’t have wished for a more perfect breakfast spot and way to come to the end of our trip.

We then opted to use one of the bus services back to the airport. These can be caught from the Rome Termini and usually take around 45minutes to 1 hour.

We had a smooth flight home and landed in time to travel back, get some dinner and get ready for the working week ahead!

We felt this had been the perfect amount of time in Rome. If you wanted to do a lot of the tours and the paid experiences, you could definitely extend your trip. If you’re looking for a lovely city break that you can squeeze into a weekend with little annual leave, then this is definitely one I’d recommend!

👢 What I Wore in Rome 👢

We were in Rome in January, so of course the weather was cooler, it was around 7-10 degrees most of the time. Whilst it was cool, it wasn’t bitterly cold like we get in the UK whilst we were there.

I opted for pretty simple outfits as we only had under seat luggage, I had to pack smart, and sparingly! I went for easy pieces that I could mix and match. I also mixed a range of luxury and budget options.

Jackets: I packed a trench coat from Jenerick and a fleece cape from Joules, plus a borg gilet from Joules

Jumpers: A high neck knit from Shein, and a knitted 1/4 zip from Salthouse England

Trousers: 1 long skirt from Shein, brown jeans and navy jeans from Shein.

Boots: Suede knee high boots from Fairfax & Favor in navy with a slight heel and suede/leather flat knee high boots from Welligogs in brown

Accessories: baker boy cap from Joules, a big blackwatch blanket scarf from House of Tweed, bag from Katie Loxton

See you next time, where I will be talking all things Cheltenham Festival styling!

Lots of love, Lucinda xo
