What I Wore … Cheltenham Races April Meet – Steal my style & top tips for Spring!
Spring racing is here … and I love it!!! Warmer days and lighter evenings are dreamy for attending a race day meet, and whilst we normally spend most of the time watching National Hunt Racing wrapped up and soaking wet, the April Meet at Cheltenham offers a welcomed opportunity to dress a little differently!
The April Meet has such a lovely atmosphere, it’s family friendly and a much smaller gathering following the hectic Festival in March! It offers a lovely, relaxing couple of days to enjoy great racing at its home!
I have to confess… I was a bit worried about outfits for this meet! I am currently mid move- and the packing situation is somewhat chaotic. Whilst I knew I had the races, I am not really one to outfit plan, leaving endless options open, none of which were easily accessible 🥴!
Despite the chaos – I pulled together two outfits that I was SO happy with – shop my look for the two days below! All items are linked where possible!!
💙 Day One 💙
Day One of the April Meet threatened showers, however the reality was only a little bit of drizzle – not really enough to get you too wet! As I hadn’t worn my beautiful Holland Cooper Trench to the Festival – it was pretty much a given that this would be making an appearance.
Navy is a gorgeous soft colour for me to wear, I sometimes think black can look a little harsh against my skin tone. I focused the whole outfit around Navy, but used light and bright cream tones for the base of the outfit (jumper & skirt). Using different shades of the same colour throughout an outfit is a flawless way to create a matching look, without looking like you’ve tried ‘too hard’. Pairing matching accessories together is also an easy way to complete a look.
Adding a silk scarf is a classic and timeless way to lift your outfit, whilst a fedora is very typical racing style. In the Summer I also find it easier to reach for clutch bags than I do in the Winter months (don’t ask why 😂)!
Whilst Spring often offers beautifully sunny days, it can still often be chilly, so jumpers and jackets are often needed still. The below look is the completed style for Day One!

💗 Day Two 💗
Day Two offered such lovely weather for us! Whilst the day started a little overcast and windy, the temperate picked up and transformed into a beautiful Spring day!
I knew I wanted to wear my Zut London Cape today – I’ve been dying to take it racing, but I’m more of a stood out in the rain, than stood in the bar, kind of race goer, so I’ve held off wearing it over the Winter. It finally got to make its racing debut though, and I think it looked amazing!!!
On day two I again went for light and bright base colours. White jeans and a white jumper will lift any outfit and make it look Spring like. I also chose a wide brimmed fedora which is not only practical, but completes any racing look.
I used my accessories to bring some colour into the outfit. The clutch is the new Hot Pink Serafina from Salthouse England which is a brand new colour way, and this teamed perfectly with some bright pink tassels on the back of my Fairfax & Favor Amira boots. Hot Pink is such a Springlike colour, and will really add a subtle boldness to your outfit!

Top tips for Spring Racing :
- Keep your tights matching the colour of your boots for a streamlined look. Use nude tights to brighten an outfit for a more Springlike look.
- Opt for capes and blazers as a welcomed changed from bigger, thicker coats!
- Protect your suede- there’s still likely to be showers. I use the Liquiproof protector spray on all my boots!
- Add pops of bright colour, or use pastels to add some colour to the foundation of your outfit. Neutral foundation colours work really well as a base for Spring outfits – think whites/creams!
- Skirts, skirts, skirts! If you didn’t fancy braving them for Winter racing, now is your chance to get them out!
- Try clutch bags instead! I’m not sure why I feel like I pack more in the Winter- but I do. For Spring racing a clutch is perfect, why not try a contrasting colour to your outfit for a pop of colour!
- Dresses are so much easier to enjoy in the Spring/Summer racing months!
- Wedges are a great option for Spring and Summer racing if you aren’t a fan of heels.
- Most importantly – always wear what you feel happiest and most comfortable in! Usually Jump racing is slightly more casual than flat racing too!
- Ps …. Stay hydrated! It can get warm on those Spring days without you realising!
I hope you enjoyed this blog. Our next race day isn’t all too far away if you love looking at racing outfit inspo!!
I’ve also got an updates blog coming very soon!
See you there 🤍
Lots of love, Lucinda xo
Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.
