The Royal Bath & West Show
2024

Hello my darling’s!

I’ve had such a wonderful May, filled with loads of events and plans, and as we move into June, I am so excited to have kickstarted the first day of the month with the amazing Royal Bath & West Show!

I absolutely love this event, so I can’t wait to share with you more about the event, and how I styled my look!

So grab your favourite drink, and let’s get into it!

The Royal Bath & West Show

This year welcomes the 159th Royal Bath & West Show! This three day agricultural show is perfect for all of the family, with a wide range of livestock, equestrian, countryside and food and drink. The main ring hosts entertainment and demonstrations throughout the day including the Livestock Grand Parade, Pony Club Games, Pawsability Dog Agility, Heavy Horses, Vintage Vehicle Parade and Show Jumping.

Outside of the main ring, you’ll find endless trade stands, livestock competitions, horticulture, food and drink and so much more.

This year saw record entries for sheep in the livestock competitions and on the equestrian side played host to 22 HOYS qualifiers. The show ground was also joined by The Wurzels on Thursday evening, and TikTok superstar Farmer Will on Saturday.

With three action packed days, you can see why this is such a popular family day out!

Saturday at the show…

Whilst the Show runs for three days, Thursday through to Saturday, we were only able to attend at the weekend due to work commitments in the week. Saturday at the event certainly doesn’t disappoint with full agricultural, equestrian and endless country associated timetables running throughout the day.

We arrived at the show for around 10.45am, with gates opening at 9am for the public. We were a little delayed in getting there as we had to stop off for the all important Tim Hortons breakfast, which kept us waiting and set us back! The trip from Gloucestershire to the Bath & West Showground is just over an hour and a half.

On arrival we signed in at the press office and went straight out to see some of the cattle in the shed behind. The showjumping was on in the main area starting with the accumulator and followed by the Grand Prix. II definitely wanted to see the GP, so we went off to see the sheep in the tents, and investigate the far side of the show ground, before setting up outside the main ring with blood orange and cloudy lemon Thatchers ciders! The Thatchers cider tent had some really great music outside and lots of seating – perfect for enjoying the sun and soaking up the atmosphere.

After the Showjumping, we went off to explore all of the trade stands, and the food and drink available. It was great to see some of our friends there – J&T Plumes, who have beautiful hats/hatpins and giftware, Gun Dog Clothing with their stunning and practical country clothing, and Black Nova Designs who host this very website for me! Alongside these, there were plenty of quirky and interesting products for sale. We fell in love with some of the gorgeous prints you could buy, and came away with a lovely champagne tray! Whilst we enjoyed some lunch, we were able to catch the last of the Scurry racing in the main area. This is so intense, if you haven’t watched it before I highly recommend as there really are thrills and spills – literally! These little ponies always have such cute little duo names too, like Rosie and Jim, Peanut and butter!

It was back to the main area for 2.30pm, and one of my favourite things to watch, the grand parade of livestock. This is such a wonderful way to admire all of the beautiful breeds out there, but it is also so inspiring to see all of the young handlers coming through doing such a smashing job and doing the Countryside proud! Following this parade was the display of heavy horses, some as large as 19/20hh! They were so incredible to see. We actually saw these being put back not their stables after the display, and the horsemanship alongside these complete giants was beautiful to watch – so inspiring!

These sorts of Country shows are the perfect place to try new food and drinks. We fell in love with a Macadamia Nut Moonshine from O’Donnells, and it was pleasing to see the team at Black Cow Vodka remembered us and our Bloody Mary orders from the last time we saw them at Cheltenham Festival in March! You can often sample pretty much everything in these food marquees at shows, with cheese being the popular choice with visitors! With the even being in Shepton Mallet, there were some really local cheeses, including a really delicious Wooky Hole cave aged cheddar cheese!

Pony Club mounted games in the main area is another crowd pleaser, and something fabulous to see. We stayed to watch some of these, with these brave and ambitious children and their cutest little whizzy ponies going for victory! I always admire the dedication from these, something I missed out on having only got into ponies when I was 12 years old!

We finished up the day with the last bit of shopping, sampling and saying goodbye to the pigs, one of which I had grown an attachment to given he was so friendly and curious, and then it was time to go home.

It really was an amazing day out, with so much to see and do!

Steal my style:

I loved styling up this outfit for the show. I’m such a dress girlie, I just find them so easy to style – minimal effort for an effortless look! When it comes to my styling, I am all about easy! I want to achieve the classiest look with the least amount of effort.

This dress is an old season River Island. You can often pick up these high street brands on the likes of Vinted now for a really good price, so it’s always worth looking on there for dresses before buying new! The dress is the main bulk of the outfit, given it was sunny and warm and no additional layers were needed. I knew I wanted just an easy and comfortable pair of loafers, so I tied in a tan belt to match these, and then finished off with a pair of large sunnies, and a beautiful suede and leather black bag from Grays.

Outfit details:

Sunglasses | Primark
Dress | River Island (Old season)
Belt | Fig & Twig (use ‘LUCINDA10’ online for discount)
Loafers | The House of Bruar
Bag | Grays 1922
