Clean my Fairfax & Favor Salcombe Deck Shoes with me…

Hi Darlings, welcome back!

I wasn’t planning on this blog post, but yesterday when cleaning up my very dirty Salcombe Deck Shoes, I realised it might be good to share what I use with you all – just incase you have any that could do with a spruce!

I have raved about the Salcombe Deck Shoes a lot! I wrote a blog post about them last year, so if you want to find out ways to style them, and a bit more about their fit and design, then do check out that blog – you can find it here.

My Salcombes are very well worn. I wear these not only casually, but I also wear them to work, and I wear them to the yard. These poor deck shoes have a hard life. I have been asked lots of questions in the past about how hard wearing they are, so I wanted to share with you my own experiences.

Whilst I don’t advise you wear them for mucking out every single day, I won’t lie to you, I do wear mine to the yard all the time. I have been very guilty of using them as my ‘Summer wellies’ for the past 2 summers, which has included mucking out regularly! I really do give these a hard life. I know lots of you in the past have wondered whether to take the leap away from your favourite leather decks, or those which you’ve relied on for being so hard wearing. I definitely think these decks hold their own, they are able to withstand a proper Country lifestyle, as well as being stylish.

So with that being said, it was definitely time for mine to have a very good clean…

Clean with me

It is worth noting that all my footwear is treated with Liquiproof Protector spray. They are all sprayed when new, and then after any cleaning they are sprayed again. This is the protector spray that I use – LIQUIPROOF LABS PREMIUM PROTECTOR.

As with cleaning anything, you should take the usual precautions! Clean in a well ventilated room, wear old clothes, and be cautious with what surface you are cleaning on – in case any cleaning product was to spill.

To start to clean up my shoes, I first use a suede brush to remove all of the dried mud (and everything else!). This should never be done when the mud is wet. If ever your footwear becomes muddy, wait for it to completely dry, and then brush off.

Once both shoes have been thoroughly brushed, I clean them using the LIQUIPROOF LABS FOOTWEAR & FASHION ECO-CLEANER. I trust the Liquiproof range, and I have been using this for many years now to clean and protect my shoes/boots. The Liquiproof cleaner is simple to use. You mix a few drops of the concentrate with water, and apply directly with a cloth. You then just need to remove any excess water with a cloth, and leave to dry. You can repeat the process again if required. I only did these shoes once.

For the next stage, we need to tackle the white rubber sole, which isn’t actually as impractical as you may think! Now I am not 100% sure where I got this tip from initially, so I would suggest proceeding with caution if you choose to do this, but I always wipe the white rubber sole clean with a cream cleaner (e.g cif). I am extremely carefully when applying this, to make sure it does not go onto the suede. This is just what I do, but like I said- I can’t remember where I initially got the tip from! There is a lot of different suggestions online for cleaning white rubber soles, if you are wanting to try it for the first time.

To finish off, once my footwear is clean, I then spray both shoes again with the protector spray!

If you are going to clean and protect your footwear, always follow the instructions carefully.

Before and After…

I have cleaned up these deck shoes using the same process a few times over the past year, and I think you’ll agree, they come up pretty well!

If you are thinking about the Salcombe Deck Shoes, they are practical and stylish, as well as super comfortable – you can’t go wrong!

That’s all for now Darlings!
Lockdown 2.0 is the perfect opportunity to get that footwear cleaned up if you’ve been putting it off!

See you soon!

Lots of love, Lucinda xo
