Cheltenham Races – The Showcase 21 – Steal my Style & How to Dress for The Races!

WE BACK!! 🐎

The Home of National Hunt Racing πŸ’“

Cheltenham, I’m not really sure where to begin because this course is just the best. I am so lucky that this is on my doorstep. The home of National Hunt Racing and the famous Cheltenham Festival, having a winner at Cheltenham is every jockeys dream.

Oh my goodness!! I can’t believe it, but we are finally back!
I was actually fortunate enough to be in the balot for the only two days in 2020/21 that they opened the gates for, to which I got tickets for both days, but aside from this, the whole to the previous season was held behind closed doors. So this really is the first time back at the course properly in …. forever!!

I get goosebumps from the atmosphere at the racecourse, nothing beats excited fans roaring their horses home, and on TV, you lose all of that.

The Showcase is such a special 2 day meet, held early in the jump racing calendar. Often where the up and coming horses of the season are first spotted out, Cheltenham is renowned for its top quality racing. Attending both the Friday and Saturday, I was so excited to get the first of the Cheltenham meets off to a flying start, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!

Friday 22nd October

A 7 race day graced the first day back for The Showcase, and with nice weather on the cards, it was looking to be a great day! And that it was! Cheltenham is such a beautiful course, and with a blue sky gracing the day,(well most of it), everyone donned their favourite tweeds, and got back to betting. We had such fantastic racing from day one, the perfect way to start the Cheltenham season off!

As always, outfits were an exciting thing to put together for the day. I rarely plan my outfit too far in advance, although I often know of a piece that I would like to style. Generally I try to dress quite practically, so I wait until the day to confirm any outfit thoughts so that I can prepare for any wind, rain or any other unexpected weather!

Friday’s outfit very much follows in the footsteps of my previous blog about what to wear to the races (read here!) There is something so simple, yet so elegant about the style of outfit I pieced together on day 1. A roll neck and jeans is probably the most basic outfit that you could style during the A/W months, it takes minimal effort to put together, and you can’t really go far wrong with it. By teaming an investment jacket and boots with this look, you can really simply elevate the look.

I am wearing the brand new Welligogs Balmoral Herringbone Tailored Jacket which has just been released! This jacket is so striking, and would elevate even the simplest of outfits. I love the longer line style, this creates such a beautiful silhouette, and smartens up any basic style of outfit – perfect for National Hunt race meets! Believe it or not, this is teamed together with my oldest pair of Fairfax & Favor boots – I think they are 7(?!) years old now!! It just goes to show if you invest wisely, these pieces really will stay with you!

Saturday 23rd October

With another 7 races ahead of the day, Saturday of the meet was sure to be an exciting one as visitors packed the racecourse in their thousands. There’s always a slight chill at Cheltenham, but overall the weather was so kind to us again, and it was another action packed day of fabulous racing.

Saturdays outfit was all about the statement, and what a statement piece it was. I’ve had my eye on the fabulous Holland Cooper Trench Coat for many years – it has been one of those pieces I have looked up to and admired, always hoping I would own one day. During the Summer I ‘accidentally’ made that purchase. It wasn’t something I had planned on buying just yet, but it happened and I couldn’t be happier with it, it is the most beautiful piece.

With my beautiful trench creating such a statement, the rest of my Saturday outfit was kept fairly simple. If you’re a regular here, you will have seen this stunning blackwatch skirt creeping up continually, it is a beautiful piece and with it being custom made, it fits really nicely. I nearly always finish a race day look with a fedora hat, super stylish, but extremely practical!
