Cheltenham Festival Style Guide … as told by our favourite brands!
Hello my Darlings!
I hope you are well, and you have had a good week! As we edge ever closer to the Cheltenham Festival, I really wanted to be joined by our favourite brands, to hear the style tips, ‘straight from the horses mouth’.
I know for many of you with tickets, it is now crunch time trying to finalise those outfits. So please join me as we delve into the style tips from 10 beautiful Country brands!

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
World-renowned / Fashion.
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
Most obvious would be the racing, the Festival is truly one of the best racing events of the year. However, true to the roots of Fairfax & Favor, I am also looking forward to seeing the fashion. Cheltenham can be notoriously cold, so the fashion can range from tailored suits to long coats (which is such an easy outfit to put together) – most racing events we attend, as a brand are in the summer, so I really love Cheltenham Festival as it is where our core pieces really come to light. Also celebrity spotting!
Will you have a stand there?
We will have a stand in the shopping village, our stand number is 37.
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
Two pieces I will most definitely be wearing at the Cheltenham Festival is the Frances Trench & the Sienna cape. The Frances trench is so versatile, I wore the Tan colour way last year and the colour really popped in the Winter Sun. I plan to style the Navy this year, I envision a very subtle outfit with the trench being the main focus.
The Sienna cape is also a must, we have just recently launched two new colour ways, the Houndstooth is such a statement and I think paired with an all-black outfit and some tall boots will be the perfect assemble.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
My ideal racing outfit would definitely be a long coat with a pair of tall boots, we have seen this been done time and time again – most recently Zara Tindall styled our Frances trench at a winter racing event and it was so timeless and simple at the same time.
This is also such a great way to keep warm against the winter chills, as you can layer underneath.
What is your top style tip?
Top style tip would be to always opt for tailored pieces, if you are wearing a long coat – having a waist belt or tie, will really give the outfit shape.
I predict matching sets to big this year, again this is such a simple way to have a really put together outfit.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
Style.
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
Of course we’ll be watching and listening to thundering hooves and love the social side of things, but despite Cheltenham being the curtain-raiser of the horse racing season, for us, part of the event is spectating style. Our eyes will be on who’s wearing what.
Will you have a stand there?
Joules are Stand 1 in the shopping pavilion – we’ll be bringing along a few heritage-inspired pieces, think classic tweed with a modern twist. And we’ll also be giving race-goers the chance to pick up ladies’ hats that will be exclusive to Cheltenham.
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
Our Hackmore tweed blazer is a blend of classic equestrian and timeless country style. It’s a perfect race-day layer, made from a wool blend and using a hardwearing tweed. It carries a contemporary relaxed fit, while gentle padding to the shoulders offers a structured look. Other stylish elements include a lapel collar with a single faux horn button fastening, two pockets to the front with faux leather binding and faux horn kissing buttons to each cuff. Unique Joules flair can be seen through the suede undercollar with tonal branded embroidery and equestrian-inspired lining.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
For women, it’s about selecting less obvious pieces to showcase individuality. Layering becomes essential to combat the Cheltenham chill, with tweeds, velvet, and wool emerging as go-to fabrics. And of course, no ensemble is complete without a statement piece of headwear – a beautifully shaped fedora hat with band trim interest will really top things off.
And for men, it’s all about striking the balance between heritage and contemporary flair. A well-tailored suit – whether tweed or cord – paired with classic pieces like a Tattersall shirt and a Fair Isle woollen vest for added warmth and visual interest. A tie with a racing motif or even a dickie bow and pocket square can be added for interest.
What is your top style tip?
Layers. March can be cold – but it can also be warm. Who knows! So let layers take centre stage as they offer both style and functionality.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham festival?
There are so many to choose from, but the one that sticks out to us most is ‘fashion’. Plenty of people see Cheltenham Festival as an opportunity to dress up and impress and this year is no different! It’s incredible to see so many different styles showcased each year.
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
From the Preview Evening to Gold Cup Day, to the Cheltenham atmosphere, there are so many events we’re looking forward to! However, the one we’re most excited for is ‘The Slow Fashion Awards’ taking place on Style Wednesday. This year, the awards are celebrating vintage and borrowed items, as well as timeless investment pieces. We can’t wait to see what unique styles are brought to the festival this year!
Will you have a stand there?
While Schöffel won’t have an official stand at the festival this year, we’ll still be attending the event in person. We love to keep an eye on what people are wearing and can’t wait to see how many classic Schöffel pieces we can spot out and about!
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
The standout piece we’d have to choose from our collection would be the Portree Tweed Jacket in Oak Herringbone Tweed! Made from 100% British-milled tweed, made from pure lambswool, it’s a smart, super-soft jacket that comes in a classic tailored fit. Designed for style and warmth, it’s the perfect companion for any festival.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand!
With the Portree Tweed Jacket as our main statement piece, we’d have to pair it with the Beauly Tweed Skirt for maximum luxury! We’d finish the outfit with the Fakenham Shirt in White – an effortlessly stylish and versatile piece – along with our Edale Scarf and Willow Fedora, for a truly classic look that’s still bound to turn heads. We’d also recommend the Millport Tweed Nehru Waistcoat in Oak Herringbone Tweed if you’re looking to elevate your outfit to the next level!
What is your top style tip
Our top style tip would be ‘remember to layer up!’ Cheltenham Festival is the perfect opportunity to showcase your own personal style, but don’t forget it can get quite chilly out there! Accessorising with a tweed scarf, hat or gloves will keep you warm and also add a touch of charm and elegance to any outfit.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
(The) Roar!
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
We love observing the fashion at Cheltenham Festival; the variety and creativity of the outfits is incredible and all add vibrancy and excitement to the event. From elegant hats to sophisticated suits, the fashion scene never fails to impress. We do, also, love watching the prestigious races like the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and the Cross Country Race These races feature some of the finest horses, jockeys, and trainers in the sport so it’s a pretty special place to be that week!
Will you have a stand there?
Yes, we will be at the Festival, you can find us in the Shopping Village on stand number 40. We’ve been exhibiting at Cheltenham for years and it’s a huge highlight in our calendar. The Shopping Village is full of lots of unique brands certainly not to be missed!
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
The Wissington pillbox in Cranberry, the design aspect alone makes it a real head turner but the cranberry colourway creates a timeless, luxurious look to your outfit. To create the ultimate outfit envy pair with a tailored coat, silk scarf and over the knee boots whilst pinning your hair in a low bun to the side.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
My Cheltenham outfit would consist of our Oxley Fedora, Fornham Lambswool Scarf and Wax/leather Gloves.
What is your top style tip?
No race day outfit is complete without a fedora, we recommend wearing an oversized brimmed hat for ladies, it can keep the sun and rain out of your eyes whilst looking effortlessly stylish. For the men, a trilby or baker boy cap will be your go-to if you don’t want to look out of place.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
At Mackenzie & George, when we think of the Cheltenham Festival, the first word that springs to mind is “elegance.” It’s a celebration of timeless style, tradition, and of course, the thrill of horse racing. There is always a lot of laughs and spirited conversations with customers at the Festival!
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
What we’re most looking forward to seeing at the Cheltenham Festival is the melding of heritage and modernity in fashion choices. It’s always fascinating to witness how attendees put their own spin on classic British style while incorporating contemporary elements. And I love to catch a glimpse of people winning a race and the celebrations!
Will you have a stand there?
We will! We are first stand in the second door of the shopping marquees – we’ve been doing this show, in this position for 9 years this year! We love engaging with customers who appreciate our craftsmanship and quality. And The Festival kicks off our show calendar for the year, so it always looked forward to to catch up with customers and exhibitors we’ve not seen for many months.
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
One standout piece from our collection that would be best styled at the festival is our signature felt fedora. “The Cheltenham Hat.” as raceday.tv named it last year. Its timeless design exudes sophistication and perfectly complements the atmosphere of the event, being stylish and practical. Paired with one of our handmade feather brooches, it adds a touch of individuality and elegance to any outfit. The fact you can pick and choose any of the 5 hat colours we have with the individual brooches means its can be made to suit you and your outfit perfectly, or mix and match! And if you get too hot or its too windy for the hat, you could get one of our personalised hat clips to carry it hands free attached to your bag.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
Our ideal race day outfit would be a classic yet contemporary ensemble that exudes sophistication and effortless style. Picture this: a tailored tweed blazer paired with Windsor belt, dark denim jeans for a modern twist, and of course, “The Cheltenham Hat”. Complete the look with leather ankle boots, one of our Tetbury clutches and our subtle Snaffle and leather bracelet to tie everything together.
What is your top style tip?
Our top style tip is to invest in timeless pieces that can be effortlessly styled for any occasion. Whether it’s a classic leather belt, a statement hat, or a beautifully crafted bag, quality and craftsmanship never go out of style. And always remember, confidence is the best accessory.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
Style, champagne and beautiful horses.
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
As a lover of all things fashion and style, it would have to be how everyone is styling their race day outfits. I like seeing outfits that are styled, well put together and slightly different.
Will you have a stand there?
We will not be exhibiting at this years event, but we know the shopping will be amazing. A few of our favourite brands exhibiting are Guinea London, Troy London, Daniel Crane Sporting Art and Emily Mortimer Jewellery.
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
The Elektra Gloves are a must have for the Winter races. They’ll keep you super warm and elevate your outfit. The Elektra Gloves make your outfit look styled and polished without needing a stylist. An equestrian sensibility is reflected in the silhouette of our Floriana Saddle Bag and you’ve styled it so beautifully at many race meets. It s the perfect size for everything you need for a day at the races. You can style the Floriana with the choice of two straps, I love wearing it as a shoulder bag, but sometimes the cross-body strap simply makes life a little easier, especially when you’re carrying your champagne.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
I’d start with the Khaki Belted Jacket from Really Wild, if it’s cold I’d add a camel over coat from Guinea London. A pair of Stuart Weitzman boots. I’d wear the Floriana Saddle bag with both straps so I have the option to wear it cross-body if I wanted to and naturally I’d finish my look off with a pair of our must have Elektra Gloves.
What is your top style tip?
Take the time to plan your outfit, I always try on special occasion outfits ahead of time to check I’m happy with the final look, then I have time to tweak it if I want to. Wear something you like feel comfortable in, this will give you confidence so you can get on and enjoy your day rather than worrying about what you’re wearing.

What’s the first word that springs to mind when you think of Cheltenham Festival?
Tweed! It’s a great opportunity to get the tweeds out!
What are you most looking forward to watching/seeing?
Everyone dressed up in their racing outfits. And of course the 15.30 gold cup on the Friday.. I already have my tips lined up!
Do you have a stand there?
Unfortunately, we wont have a stand at Cheltenham. Our newly refurbished store in London will be open as normal in the run up to Cheltenham and we would be more than happy to assist you in your all of your racing attire needs! And of course our website has everything available to purchase also.
Which stand out piece from your collection would be best styled at the festival and why?
My absolute favourite pieces in our recent collection that just scream Cheltenham are our Ladies Sloane Wrap Coat in Sandy Glen Check Tweed and our men’s Fairford Loden Glen Check coat. Of course our men’s tweed sports jackets are just spot on for a day out at the races too, and so easy to pair with cord or moleskin trousers and some smart shoes.
Can you describe your ideal race day outfit for us, including pieces from the brand?
My ideal race day outfit is usually the same every year..! For Gold Cup as its usually still chilly, I go for our Dark Olive Corduroy trousers, paired with one of our tattersall shirts, one of our lambswool v-neck jumpers and the Farlows Tweed Sports Jacket in the Olive Claret WP colour. Finish off with a nice pair of suede loafers or Chelsea boots to complete the look. If it’s really cold or you expect to be standing outside all day you can easily throw the Farlows Fairford Loden Glen Check coat over the top of this. We designed this coat purposefully to work well being worn over a sports jacket or suit.
What is your top style tip?
My top style tip is a fairly straight forward one but essential to tie in the outfit ensuring it all works well together. For the shirt choice I usually go for a tattersall shirt that’s plain and simple with a smaller check but then I pick out the claret windowpane check on my Farlows tweed sports jacket with my tie choice. For example our Farlows Flying Pheasant tie in ‘wine’ colour works perfectly for this purpose. Keep the knitwear simple with a navy or dark green. You could even add a bit more flair and go for one of our Farlows lambswool Sport Shirts, which just gives a little more texture to the outfit.
