Cheltenham Festival 2022 – outfit round up and steal my style!
There’s nothing quite like that Festival roar!
Wow, what a Festival it has been!! I can’t believe it’s now almost a week since Cheltenham roared for the last time, and the sun set on what was the most magnificent 4 days of racing. I think the Festival was even more special this year, having missed the crowds in 2021. The atmosphere is what makes a race day, and the buzz of everyone finally getting back to the course was indescribable.
I must admit, it’s taken me a little while to get back into the swing of life post Festival. Attending the whole week you end up in this little bubble of nothing else. Hitting reality on Saturday is somewhat difficult!! Whilst it’s taken me a while to get back to normal, I was keen to put together a blog for those post Festival blues!
Racing for me will always be about the horses and the jockeys. It’s a sport of such phenomenal athleticism, and it’s the main reason it’s my favourite sport. I spent 5 years of my life studying elite athletes in equestrian sport, with a 1st class Degree and Masters in Sports Science, it’s no surprise that I thrive off this level of sport.
The Festival 2022 just didn’t disappoint with some jaw dropping finishes and history making moments! Of course I can’t continue without mentioning the phenomenal Rachel Blackmore. Not only was she the first woman to win the Grand National in 2021, but now to win the Gold Cup – she is powering our sport forwards and is THE BEST role model not only in equestrianism, but in sport as a whole. And it wasn’t just the jockeys who pulled out incredible performances, we saw the likes of Flooring Porter, Chambard, Coole Cody and Commander Of Fleet, pull off huge wins. It goes without saying that the Finale for Tiger Roll was somewhat eyewatering, and seeing the incredible Honeysuckle steal the show are memories we won’t forget in a hurry.
Whilst first and foremost Racing will always be about the sport for me, I am completely and utterly obsessed with racing style. It’s where my content creation and blog ‘accidentally’ grew from. And it’s undoubtably my favourite type of style.
🐎 Festival Style 🐎
Fashion and Racing do go hand in hand, and it is a great opportunity to dress up, and choose a favourite outfit to give you the feel good factor!
I have loved seeing the styles and outfits from the Festival over the four days. The wonderful thing about Cheltenham is that you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Want to wear a dress and the biggest fascinator, great! If you want to cosy up in a coat and boots, great! Nothing is out of place at Cheltenham!
I was at the Festival all four days, which means bringing you details from four fabulous outfits! Shop all of my styles below ❤️🐎
🍾 Day One 🍾
Day one saw the ever classic combination of Navy and Tan tied together. I loved everything about this outfit, from the elegance of the velvet to the colour coordination throughout. It was styled around the show stopping headband from High Bird Designs, and was actually a very last minute put together. Lynette created me a beautiful navy and tan feathered design and i used this to then create the rest of the outfit around those colours.
A velvet jacket is such a striking option, they are so easily dressed up, and really help to create a showstopping outfit! Combined with a silk scarf, the different textures not only break up the outfit, but create a flattering and elegant look. I went for a very simple dress underneath and a matching bag. I always try to tie the colour of my tights into my boot colour, to create a seamless and elongated leg. The High Heeled Regina boots are the perfect finish to any race day look. The block heel is comfortable and easy to walk in, whilst the extra height offers a lift and subtle style up to the outfit.

💃🏻 Day Two 💃🏻
Here come the girls
Nothing offers a chance for dressing up like Ladies Day. This is the main day you’ll find big heels, dresses and fascinators. The best thing about Cheltenham is that you can wear whatever you like on Ladies Day. If towering heels and dresses aren’t your thing – it doesn’t matter!!
Sadly this year, the weather was most definitely not on our side! Pouring with rain all day, outfits may have been damp, but our spirits weren’t ever dampened!
I’ve had my eye on a red tartan skirt for a while now, and I finally hit add to basket just before the Festival. I am awful at planning outfits too far ahead of time, but when the skirt arrived the weekend before Cheltenham, I already knew what it was going to pair perfectly with.
My High Bird Designs bespoke fascinator is one I have actually worn to the Festival previously. You don’t need to buy new time and time again. I absolutely love the bold statement of this fascinator and I’ve been dying to wear it again.
I opted for another velvet jacket, this is actually the older style of the Welligogs jacket I wore on Day one. I’ll let you into a little secret too… I wasn’t worried about my velvet in the rain. This is because I sprayed it down with the same Liquiproof protector that I use on all of my suede boots. The product was fine to spray on velvet, and it works in exactly the same way! If you’ve seen the video of me standing out in the rain at the Best Mate statue – you’ll have seen I definitely wasn’t worried about anything getting wet- and that’s all thanks to Liquiproof!
This was 100% my favourite outfit of the Festival! I felt amazing, I thought the black and red looked timeless, and despite the rain, I just actually felt really good in this style!

🍀 Day Three 🍀
Day 3 was a very last minute outfit. Cheltenham weather can often be unpredictable and I rarely ever plan a race day outfit in full until a day or two before, and most of the time- they are actually decided on the day! Day 3 was no exception to this, I decided what to wear the morning of!
I am so pleased with how this outfit turned out!! I’ve had my Timothy Foxx skirt and jacket since lockdown and the plan for me was that it would always make a day at the races, however with Covid playing out as it did, we lost so many race days and I ended up just wearing the pieces individually, and it never got it’s full debut…. Until now!!!
On Ladies Day I had acquired the Brand New Mackenzie and George Clifton Belt in Toffee, and I was desperate to wear this during the Festival, the same goes for the Clare Haggas Hold Your Horses toffee scarf. This outfit literally just came together like a thing of dreams – it’s like it was meant to be and once I started accessorising everything just came together effortlessly. I finished off the look with a smaller Lucinda Headband from High Bird Designs – another piece I’ve reworked for this outfit from previous race days!

🏆 Day Four 🏆
The day that everyone is waiting for!
Gold Cup Day outfits are often a special one! It is rare that the weather at Cheltenham is phenomenal, it is normally pretty cold, windy and often there’s showers. But for the Festival this year we only had the one day of rain, and the other days were relatively warm and sunny – this made outfit planning so much easier!
For the final day I had a show stopping hat from High Bird Designs, and I knew I would be pairing this with my breathtaking Houndstooth jacket from Welligogs. This has been one of the newer jackets to my collection, but I’ve had my eye on it for quite a while and I have to say, it’s been so well worn already! I never really thought of myself as a Houndstooth girl until I saw this jacket, but I am surprised how incredibly easy it is to style, it also seems to be an increasing more popular style.
I kept styling fairly simple and teamed my statement hat, jacket and scarf with a plain roll neck, skirt and boots to create a stylishly understated, but also statement outfit. I used my Clare Haggas scarf to pick up and join the red of the hat through the outfit, and kept accessories classic with plain black.
This outfit turned out so well in the end, I was so pleased with the contrasting colours, and how the bold red, and monochrome of the rest of the outfit complimented each other!

Best Dressed Lady – Cheltenham 2022
I can’t believe that I am also able to say that my outfit from day 3 of the festival also made it into the Race Day TV social (@raceday.rtv on instagram) Best Dressed Ladies Final. Sadly my outfit only just missed out on the winning place, and came second, but it was still such a wonderful sight to see one of my Cheltenham outfits being recognised! Racing style is my favourite and to see not only myself loving these outfits, but others too, it is really quite special!
It’s been the most wonderful Festival, and I’m sad it’s over for another year! There is still a lot of racing content to come through! We have 3 races days at Cheltenham in April, plus lots of Summer racing inspo to come!
Want to attend a Cheltenham meet during April? Find tickets here!
See you soon for the next blog,
Lots of love, Lucinda xo
